Have you fertilized your yard yet? Did you know that after May 31st in most areas it is illegal to apply fertilizer that has nitrogen in it?

Fertilizer with nitrogen helps yards get green in Florida, but due to fertilizer run off concerns into the water system it is now banned as of June 1st.

If you want apply fertilizer during the restriction period you may be fined for doing so. Also, it is important to know that whoever is applying fertilizer to your yard is licensed to do so, that is now a requirement in this state of Florida for applicators.

You Must Have a License to Apply Fertilizer Now In Port St. Lucie

The City of Port St. Lucie passed an ordinance regulating the use of fertilizer. Lawn and Landscaping business owners are encouraged obtain the required certification prior to renewing their business tax receipt. Information is available from the University of Florida on its web site at http://stlucie.ifas.ufl.edu. Business tax receipts will not be issued without the necessary certification. Check the city web site for more information on the ordinance at www.cityofpsl.com.

Indian River Shores to Adopt Fertilizer Ordinance

Fertilizer Ordinance Hearing

The Town of Indian River Shores, in Indian River County, near Vero Beach Florida is holding a hearing about the fertilizer ordinance on Thursday, April 26th,  at 3:30pm. . The State Model Ordinance will be considered for adoption, and perhaps additional restrictions will be added.
