Florida Pest Alert for a New Species of Pest

The first discovery of this new pest,  Eubule spartocerana, was in August of 2012 by an inspector at the Department of Plant Industry in Miami-Dade County. The Eubule spartocerana is an exotic coreid bug typically found in Venezuela, South America. 

The is very like information made avialble on the distrubution, biology, and other characteristics of this pest. For example it is still known as to what plants in Florida it will attack. 

Researchers are lead to believe the pest, Eubule spartocerana, is on the rise and spreading through South Florida. In February of this year a gardener discovered the Eubule spartocerana on the exterior walls of her home in Palm Beach County, Florida. 

Currently in Florida we do commonly encounter a similar pest, Euthochtha galeator, which is also a coreid bug. This pest will feed on a different variety of plants in Florida such as roses, fruits, ornamentals, and citrus.
